Chillicothe — Council conducted normal business aside from the homeless issue – including hearing the mayor’s briefing on city administration, and (see its own story) considering a new home for city offices.

Mayor Luke Feeney said the police chief had concerns about the draft “Anti-Camping” ordinance that was receiving so much opposition from homeless supporters. Feeney said the chief had questions on the implementation and phrasing of the draft, and that the chief’s “engagement and evaluation review” will be forward to council members.

He said “speed humps” had been appropriated last fall for South Watt Street, and for Pawnee Road and Loganview Drive behind Zane Plaza. Feeny said they were “dramatically backordered” but have finally been delivered.

In the coming weeks, drivers should see “a rollout of signage and speed measures” for the speed controls requested by residents, said Feeney. This is the first time they will be installed in Chillicothe, so he expects “growing pains.”

Feeney thanked Deirdre Nickerson (D) and Steve Barnes (R) for their service before they resigned from council recently. (This was also the first session for newly appointed Gunner Barnes who fills in for Nickerson.)

Feeney also congratulated Chillicothe High School graduate Jayvon Maughmer for his basketball career for the Cedarville (Ohio) University “Yellow Jackets” and Liberty University (Lynchburg, Virginia) “Flames“…though that bracket “is busted.”
