CHILLICOTHE, OHIO — A Chillicothe man was arrested on January 29, 2025, after a police chase led officers to his capture following suspicious activity at a recently vacated home on Warner Avenue.
At approximately 5:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to 42 Warner Avenue in response to reports of suspicious persons on the porch of the property, which had recently been vacated. Upon arrival, officers observed a large pile of belongings and trash on the front sidewalk, indicating the house had been abandoned.
As officers Morgan Music and Ofc. Davis approached the house, they noted that the interior appeared to be in extreme disarray and likely uninhabitable. Ofc. Davis reported hearing noises from inside, prompting the officers to announce their presence.
A male voice responded, “I’m coming,” followed by rummaging sounds inside the house. Moments later, a man in a green coat was seen running out the back door of the residence, carrying several bags. The officers gave chase, and Ofc. Music was able to catch up with the man, later identified as Frederick Simon, who was hiding next to a neighboring garage.
Simon was arrested on the spot and was found to have an active warrant for his arrest from the Chillicothe Police Department.
While Simon was being detained, Ofc. Davis made contact with two women, Danee Smith and Breanna Haller, who were in the area near Simon’s location. The women denied knowing Simon or being with him, and they were subsequently released.
Simon was transported to the Ross County Jail (RCJ), where he was incarcerated on his capias warrant, related to a probation violation. Additionally, he was warned for obstructing official business and criminal trespassing at 42 Warner Avenue, given the current condition of the vacant house. Simon acknowledged the warnings and stated he would not return to the property.
The investigation into the incident continues, but Simon’s arrest brings closure to the situation involving suspicious activity at the vacant residence.
