Chillicothe, OH — The Chillicothe Police Department is thrilled to announce the addition of a new member to its team: a 15-month-old Belgian Malinois imported from the Netherlands. This highly anticipated K9 unit has already commenced training at the Ohio State Highway Patrol K9 Training Academy with the goal of becoming a certified Police K9.

In an engaging community effort, the department is collaborating with the 6th-grade DARE classes at Chillicothe Intermediate School to choose a name for the new K9. Details on the naming process will be revealed soon, with an exciting announcement anticipated in the near future.

Belgian Malinois are gaining popularity among police forces due to their exceptional qualities. Comparable to German Shepherds in intelligence, loyalty, and strength, Belgian Malinois are also noted for their agility and endurance. Their slightly smaller size contributes to their nimbleness, making them well-suited for various patrol tasks. Additionally, Belgian Malinois are less prone to hip dysplasia, potentially extending their service duration compared to German Shepherds.

Despite their sometimes perceived neurotic tendencies, Belgian Malinois are renowned for their dedication and effectiveness in their roles, whether apprehending suspects or detecting contraband. The Chillicothe Police Department looks forward to seeing the positive impact this new K9 will bring to their operations.
