Chillicothe Police are investigating an assault and theft that occurred early on January 19, 2025, at the BP gas station located at 1141 E Main St.
According to the victim, who was found by officers across the street in the McDonald’s parking lot, he had been walking down Renick Ave. toward the gas station when a van suddenly pulled up. Several unidentified individuals exited the van and attacked him, knocking him to the ground. The victim reported that while he was on the ground, the suspects continued to kick him. During the assault, one of the individuals reached into his coat pocket and stole a Social Security check addressed to him, valued at $6,985.
The victim described his only injury as a large red knot resembling gout on his right elbow, which had an open sore. Officers examined the injury and called for medical assistance. The victim was transported by ambulance to Adena Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.
Authorities advised the victim to contact his bank and the Social Security office to block the check, in case an attempt was made to cash it. The investigation into the assault and theft is ongoing, and police are working to identify the suspects involved in the attack.
