The day began at 12:04 a.m. with officers dispatched to South Douglas Avenue near Eastern Avenue in response to a welfare check on a man lying in the grass. No additional information was immediately available, and the investigation is ongoing. Shortly thereafter, officers received a theft complaint at 353 S. Douglas Avenue at 7:14 a.m., with the investigation still active.
By 8:17 a.m., officers were investigating a case of criminal trespass on South Sugar Street where a woman had reportedly been sleeping in a van for the past two days. Additional criminal trespass reports were received later in the day, including a call from McArthur Gardens at 5:42 p.m. regarding a man trespassing on private property.
A behavioral emergency prompted police response to 436 Western Avenue at 10:26 a.m., while a shooting investigation was launched at 836 Adams Avenue at 10:47 a.m. A traffic stop at 12:47 p.m. on West Water Street led to a citation for a driver for operating without proper seat belt usage and driving under suspension.
By afternoon, police continued addressing a variety of incidents, including reports of theft at 867 N. Bridge Street at 3:25 p.m. and a crash at S. Bridge Street and East 5th Street at 3:35 p.m. Officers also received a report of possible child endangerment stemming from a suspected overdose at S. Watt Street at 4:11 p.m.
Several traffic violations were also noted on December 17. At 6:32 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop at 35 MPH on Western Avenue. Later, at 9:57 p.m., officers investigated a crash related to failing to maintain assured clear distance ahead on Western Avenue. Additional traffic stops for speeding occurred at 8:52 p.m. and 9:20 p.m., with citations being issued.
By evening, police addressed a variety of disturbances and non-criminal complaints. A juvenile complaint was reported at 11:22 p.m. on East Main Street. Investigations into this matter are ongoing.
