Chillicothe, OH (January 29, 2025) — A routine traffic stop on Eastern Avenue led to the arrest of a Chillicothe woman after officers discovered drug paraphernalia and an active warrant for her arrest.
On January 28, 2025, at approximately 6:47 AM, Officer Jonathan Davis was patrolling the area when he observed a grey Honda fail to signal while turning onto McKellar Street from Maple Street. The driver, later identified as 36-year-old Jennifer Ewing, also failed to signal on a subsequent turn onto Old Eastern Avenue. After further observation, the officer noticed Ewing had stopped past the stop bar at a stop sign before turning onto Eastern Avenue.
Officer Davis initiated a traffic stop and made contact with Ewing, who admitted she did not have a valid driver’s license on her. Instead, she provided her social security number. A background check revealed that Ewing had an active warrant out of Pike County for writing bad checks.
While preparing to tow the vehicle, Officer Davis conducted an inventory search, which is standard procedure. During the search, the officer discovered a tan straw with white residue in the center console. A more thorough search revealed additional items inside a brown wallet on the passenger seat, including burnt foil, a red straw with residue, and a folded piece of paper containing a white powder.
When questioned about the substances, Ewing admitted that she used the straws to snort fentanyl. She claimed the white powder was crushed-up vitamin pills. Ewing was advised of her Miranda rights and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. The white powder was sent for further testing.
Ewing was transported to the Ross County Jail, where she was booked for her warrant and the additional charge of drug paraphernalia possession. The vehicle was towed by Letches Towing, and the seized paraphernalia was submitted as evidence.
This case remains under investigation.
