CIRCLEVILLE, OHIO — Following his recent conviction, Chris Agin, 61, of New Holland, Ohio, filed a motion seeking a new trial. The motion, submitted by Agin’s attorney, James R. Kingsley, challenged the verdict rendered in June 2024 by the Pickaway County Common Pleas Court. This week that new trial occurred.

Agin was convicted on eighteen of twenty counts, including serious offenses such as Intimidation of a Victim in a Criminal Case, Violating a Protection Order, Aggravated Burglary, Telecommunications Harassment, and Menacing by Stalking. He was acquitted of Assault and Domestic Violence charges. The conviction stemmed from a series of domestic disputes involving his wife and stepdaughters, resulting in multiple violations of protection orders and other charges.

In his motion for a new trial, Attorney Kingsley argues that the jury’s verdict was not supported by the evidence and was inconsistent with Ohio law. The motion challenges several aspects of the case, including the validity of the protection orders issued in Agin’s absence and the classification of a pocketknife found during his arrest as a deadly weapon. Kingsley contends that the knife was not used in a threatening manner and was not open at the time of the arrest. Additionally, the defense disputes the Intimidation charges, asserting that the evidence did not support claims of credible threats against Agin.

The Pickaway County Court of Common Pleas scheduled trial on August 9, 2024. In Court this week Agin was sentenced to 11 to 16½ years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
