Chillicothe, OH – December 25, 2024 – Authorities are investigating a case of criminal mischief after a local resident discovered her vehicle vandalized and holiday gifts stolen early Christmas morning.
At approximately 6:24 a.m., Officer Christopher Althouse responded to a report at 847 Washington Avenue. Desiree Francis reported that upon waking, she found the back windshield of her 2013 Ford SUV smashed and around 20 to 25 wrapped presents missing. Among the stolen items was a vanity set valued at $200.
Francis noted that the vehicle appeared intact around 1:00 a.m., leaving her uncertain about when the incident occurred or who might be responsible. In an effort to gather more information, Officer Althouse contacted Cody Francis, who identified himself as a relative and informed the officer that the vehicle belongs to his grandfather, George Francis. Cody mentioned that a neighbor may have surveillance footage of the incident and planned to reach out to check for any evidence.
In a related matter, Hal E. Beatty reported that his unlocked 2012 KIA Sorento was also targeted, with a Garmin GPS unit stolen from inside. However, Beatty indicated he was not concerned about formally reporting the theft.
The investigation into the vandalism and theft is ongoing as police seek to uncover further details, including potential video evidence from nearby surveillance cameras. Local residents are reminded to secure their vehicles and belongings, especially during the holiday season.
