Circleville, OH – December 13, 2024 – A 19-year-old Circleville man who previously pleaded guilty to arson at Ted Lewis Park has been arrested again after violating the conditions of his bond while awaiting sentencing.
The man, identified as Mazurek, was originally arrested on September 25, 2024, following a late-night fire that caused extensive damage to a shelter house in Ted Lewis Park. Emergency crews responded to the scene around 11:37 PM, finding the structure fully engulfed in flames. Quick action by the Circleville Fire Department contained the blaze, preventing further damage, while Circleville police launched an investigation into the cause.
Last month, Mazurek entered a guilty plea and waived his right to a trial. He had been released on bond while awaiting his sentencing, scheduled for January 22, 2025. However, after violating his bond conditions, Mazurek was taken into custody once again.
Officials confirmed that he will now be held in custody without bond until his sentencing.
The arson case, which caused significant community concern, remains a topic of interest as Circleville residents await the court’s decision on Mazurek’s punishment. The sentencing hearing is expected to bring closure to an incident that highlighted the importance of safeguarding local parks and public spaces.
