Circleville, OH — The Circleville Strategic Planning Committee met on the evening of October 1, 2024, to discuss important developments for the city. Chairperson Sheri Theis welcomed committee members Zach Brooks and John Good, who reviewed and approved the minutes from the previous meeting.

The primary agenda item was a resolution authorizing the Director of Public Service to apply for financial assistance through the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Service Director Jim Stanley provided details on the resolution, explaining that it seeks $300,000 in grant funding to support the construction of a new all-season shelter house, replacing the former structure that was destroyed by fire and now has been demolished.

Stanley noted that the demolition is currently being handled pro bono by Darby Creek Excavating, which has donated both time and equipment for the project. He also shared that the estimated total cost for the new shelter is around $500,000. The Friends of Ted Lewis have raised approximately $140,000, and additional donations are expected to cover all costs for the new building with no costs to taxpayers.

The committee discussed the timeline for grant approvals, with Stanley indicating that the city should receive news regarding the funding early next year. This grant application is part of a broader effort to secure resources for community improvement projects, including ongoing applications for clean water initiatives through the Ohio Public Works.

The meeting concluded with a consensus to move forward with the resolution, setting the stage for the city to enhance its recreational facilities in the near future.
