COMMERCIAL POINT – The Commercial Point Police Department was able to stop and detain a car theft suspect, today, December 7th at around 7AM. Original reports that the listed suspect was attempting to steal items at a car sales lot in the area of State Route 104 and State Route 316. After being confronted by the owner of the car lot, the suspect then fled the area.
Pickaway County Sheriffs Deputy, Cpl. Chris Heamstead responded and immediately began searching for the fleeing suspect. The suspect was followed by the car lot owner which was able to maintain direction of travel and provided responding units a vehicle description. The suspect then traveled into Commercial Point when Officer Writsel observed and stopped the suspect within Foxfire subdivision along with Cpl. Hempstead and a Sheriff’s canine unit. Upon investigation by Sheriffs units it was discovered the vehicle was stolen from a victim within Scioto Township.
Efforts and cooperations such as these with Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, Commercial Point PD, other local agencies and most importantly observant citizens is what provided for the swift apprehension. The suspect was charged by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
