COLUMBUS, OH – August 26, 2024 – The Alzheimer’s Association is calling on Central Ohio residents to participate in the 2024 Circleville Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, scheduled for Saturday, September 7, at Mary Virginia Crites Hannan Park, 1230 Pontius Road, Circleville. Registration opens at 8:00 a.m., with the Promise Garden Ceremony set for 8:45 a.m. and the Walk following shortly thereafter.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, which features over 600 events nationwide each year, is recognized as the world’s largest fundraising event for Alzheimer’s disease. The event aims to support the Alzheimer’s Association’s educational programs, support groups, care services, and advancements in treatment and research.

Participants will take part in the meaningful Promise Garden ceremony, a symbol of commitment in the fight against Alzheimer’s. During the ceremony, walkers will carry flowers of different colors, each representing their personal connection to the disease.

“This is a pivotal moment in the fight against Alzheimer’s, as new treatments are emerging that could change the course of the disease,” said Vince McGrail, executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association Central Ohio Chapter. “Every step and every dollar raised brings us closer to a future without Alzheimer’s. We encourage Central Ohioans to register their teams and contribute to raising awareness and funds for those affected by this disease.”

The event is free to participate in, with walkers and teams encouraged to set fundraising goals. Participants can earn incentives such as t-shirts, backpacks, water bottles, and blankets based on their fundraising efforts.

Alzheimer’s disease affects nearly 7 million Americans aged 65 and older, including 236,200 residents of Ohio. It is the leading cause of death among seniors, surpassing breast and prostate cancer combined.
