CIRCLEVILLE, OH — Several fire departments were dispatched to the Pickaway County Wastewater Treatment Plant yesterday after a fire was reported at 779 US-23 in Wayne Township. The 911 call reported one of the buildings on fire.
The Circleville Fire Department arrived promptly and quickly extinguished the blaze. Chief Thompson informed Sciotopost that a construction crew working on the roof of a new building likely caused the fire. The crew, applying roofing tar, had inadvertently left a heating element on during their lunch break, which is suspected to have ignited the fire.
Chief Thompson reassured that the roof’s thickness likely prevented any internal damage, and the exterior damage was minor. The wastewater treatment plant has been undergoing major renovations for about a year, and the fire incident appears to be a minor setback in the ongoing construction project.
