A man was rescued after his car crashed into icy waters on Island Road Monday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. when emergency services received a call about a vehicle in the water north of the engineer’s office.

When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found the man wet and standing on the side of the road, with his car deeply submerged in the freezing water. According to the Sheriff’s department, the driver was traveling northbound on Island Road when he failed to make a left turn, driving into a nearby farm field.

After the initial mishap, the driver attempted to return to the road but encountered floodwaters that had frozen over. He drove about 50 yards through the ice-covered water, trying to navigate back onto the road, but his efforts were unsuccessful, and the vehicle became stuck.

Emergency responders transported the driver to Berger Hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition. The sheriff’s department has not released the name of the driver, but authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
