LANCASTER, OH — During the recent State of the County address, Fairfield County Commissioners announced the launch of the “Brand the Bus” initiative, inviting residents to help rename the local transit system. The goal was to choose a name that reflects the essential services provided by Lancaster-Fairfield Public Transit, such as transportation to jobs, medical appointments, and other important destinations.
After receiving over 70 submissions, the name “The Link” was selected. Fairfield County Commissioner Steve Davis emphasized the significance of the name, stating, “The Link is a name that perfectly reflects what our transit system does. We link people to their jobs, we link them to local stores, we link them to their medical appointments, and we link them to the entire community.”
The governance of the transit department was transferred from the City of Lancaster to Fairfield County in July, aimed at enhancing service across the county while focusing on removing transportation barriers for individuals entering the workforce.
Name suggestions were collected from August 26 to September 27. The options were narrowed down to three finalists: Fairfield County Link, Fairfield County Connect, and Fairfield County Ride. Voting took place from October 7 during the Fairfield County Fair until October 19. While the official name will be Fairfield County Transit, the branding seen on buses and bus stops will prominently feature “The Link.” Funding for the rebranding has been secured through a grant.
Transit Director Aaron Kennedy expressed gratitude for the community’s involvement, stating, “As a newly established county department, we enjoyed hearing from residents and seeing the creativity from the community. The response has been positive, and we hope everyone enjoyed the process.”
