Lancaster, OH, June 13th, 2024 – Sheriff Alex Lape of the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office reported a successful conclusion to a high-stakes pursuit and arrest on June 13th, 2024. The incident began when undercover units conducted surveillance on a residence at 1366 Sheridan Dr., where a known suspect, identified as Granville Gibson of Laurelville, OH, was observed exiting the property while carrying a shotgun. Detectives had prior knowledge that Gibson was unlawfully in possession of the firearm.
Upon spotting Gibson with the shotgun, detectives promptly alerted a marked patrol unit to initiate a traffic stop on Gibson’s vehicle. However, Gibson chose to evade law enforcement, disregarding all signals and warnings to stop. During the pursuit, officers from the Baltimore Police Department collaborated by strategically deploying spike strips, which effectively disabled Gibson’s vehicle by causing two flat tires.
Despite the setback, Gibson managed to return to the residence at 1366 Sheridan Dr., where he parked his vehicle and surrendered to law enforcement without further incident. He was promptly taken into custody by Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
Granville Gibson now faces multiple charges, including three counts of weapons under disability, failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, and tampering with evidence. Sheriff Lape emphasized that the investigation remains active, with additional charges anticipated as the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau continues to delve deeper into the case.
Sheriff Lape expressed gratitude to the Lancaster Police Department, Baltimore Police Department, the South-Central Ohio Major Crimes Unit, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol for their swift and effective collaboration during the incident.
