Fairfield County – Man Uses Fake Identity to Get Job Steals Thousands First Two Days

CANAL WINCHESTER, Ohio — Authorities responded to a significant theft incident at Speedway Gas Station located at 290 Bowen Rd. on July 7, 2024, involving a newly hired employee who allegedly stole merchandise, lottery tickets, and cash totaling $5,063.00.

According to the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, who initially identified himself to management as DeMarcus Kelly from Pennsylvania, had only been employed for two days before the theft was discovered. It was later determined that the suspect had started working before a background check could verify his identity.

The incident came to light following an investigation prompted by reports of missing inventory and funds from the business premises. Detectives have since issued an appeal to the public for any information that may assist in identifying the suspect involved in this theft by deception.
