The Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Thursday afternoon. At approximately 2:58 p.m., a single-vehicle accident took place on Ohio Route 188 near mile post 11, in Hocking Township, Fairfield County.
According to reports, 41-year-old Avon J. G. Stokes of Lancaster was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala westbound on Ohio 188 when he failed to navigate a curve. Stokes overcorrected, crossed the center line, veered off the left side of the road, struck an embankment, and overturned. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office.
Assisting with the incident were the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, Lancaster Police Department, Hocking Township Fire Department, Berne Township Fire Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, and the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
