FAIRFIELD – The Valley View Golf Club, a treasured Fairfield County community asset owned by the George family for 200+ years, has been purchased by Lancaster natives Barry and Jennifer Rhonemus.

The purchase is a self-described “dream come true,” for Barry, whose father, a mason, helped to build retaining walls and other stone structures on the property before Barry was born.

“We are honored that the George family believes in our vision for this property and is allowing us to carry on the traditions and invest in the future of this community treasure,” said Barry Rhonemus. “Both Jennifer and I have fond memories of growing up golfing and swimming with our families at Valley View, and we’re excited to begin the work of bringing our vision to life.”

The property, which will be managed by Cory and Barbi George in conjunction with the Rhonemus’, will remain an 18-hole golf course open to the public and available for members, everyday play, leagues, events and outings. The Valley View Pool, which is leased and operated by the Pleasant Valley View Family Swim Club, will continue to operate under the current lease, as it has in the past.

Work is already underway to invest in the property, including work to beautify the golf course and remodel the clubhouse, which was built in the 1960s. The first activity that the community will see will be the removal of dead trees across the property. The clubhouse renovation will begin this fall, with the goal of completing by spring 2022, in time for the new golf season. Visitors can expect a whole new vibe for the clubhouse – including furnishings and décor, restaurant upgrades and an entirely new food and beverage menu.

“Valley View Golf Club is here to stay,” said Jennifer Rhonemus. “Our hope is that golfers, swimmers and guests, old and new, will be enthusiastic about these plans and proud to share this unique community asset with friends and family for generations to come.”
