FAYETTE COUNTY, OH — The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-vehicle crash that left two men injured Sunday evening on U.S. 62 SW, near the intersection of Rowe-Ging Rd. The crash was reported at 5:36 p.m.
The accident involved a 2007 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck, driven by 54-year-old Michael L. Ballard of Washington Court House, and a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer, pulling a utility trailer, driven by 46-year-old Travis M. Leonard, also of Washington Court House.
According to authorities, both vehicles sustained significant damage in the collision. Leonard had to be extricated from his vehicle by members of the Washington Fire Department before being transported to a Columbus-area trauma center by MedFlight. Ballard was treated at Adena-Fayette Medical Center for his injuries.
Deputies determined that Ballard was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and charged him with Operating a Vehicle under the Influence (OVI) and No Operator’s License.
Due to a lack of physical evidence at the scene, investigators have been unable to determine which vehicle crossed the centerline, leading to the crash. Additionally, deputies have been unable to interview Leonard due to his injuries. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
