COLUMBUS, Ohio — In a landmark decision, a federal court has declared Google a monopolist and found the tech giant in violation of Section 2 of the Sherman Act, according to Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost. This ruling marks a major development in the ongoing efforts to ensure fair competition in the digital marketplace.
“Today’s decision reaffirms that no company, regardless of its size or influence, is above the law,” Yost said. “We are committed to holding monopolistic practices accountable to safeguard Ohioans and promote a fair and competitive market.”
The court’s ruling follows allegations from multiple states that Google has unlawfully maintained its dominant position in the general search engine and related advertising markets. The states argued that Google’s anticompetitive practices, including exclusionary contracts and conduct, have stifled competition, limiting consumer choices, innovation, and privacy protections.
The decision, handed down by Judge Amit Mehta in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, is currently under further legal analysis.
