In a recent community service outing at Ted Lewis Park, seventh-grade students from Circleville Middle School made an unexpected discovery: pieces of a deteriorated firearm. The incident occurred under the watchful eye of staff members, who promptly secured the rusted fragments and notified local law enforcement for further investigation.

According to CMS Principal Connie S. Strebe, the fragments were found by a vigilant student during the outing. Upon discovery, a staff member took immediate action, collecting the pieces and alerting the school’s administrator, who in turn contacted the School Resource Officer (SRO).

Upon examination by the Circleville Police Department’s SRO, it was determined that the firearm was severely deteriorated, with the ammunition barrel missing. Authorities emphasized that the firearm was in an advanced state of decay and rust, rendering it non-functional and incapable of use.

Thankfully, no students or staff members were in any immediate danger, and the situation was swiftly addressed. Strebe underscored the school’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its students, expressing gratitude for the quick response of both staff members and law enforcement.

Circleville Middle School remains dedicated to providing a secure learning environment for its students and will continue to prioritize safety measures in all school activities.
