Today, representatives from the Ohio Attorney’s Office laid out new information before a Hocking County Grand Jury regarding former Chief Deputy Caleb Moritz. Moritz, who was initially indicted on August 11, 2023, on charges of two counts of Intimidation of a Witness (F-3) and one count of Theft in Office (F-3), now faces a slew of additional charges.
The charges brought forth today against Moritz include:
- Two counts of Intimidation of an Attorney, Victim, or Witness in a Criminal Case (F-3)
- Grand Theft (F-4)
- Two counts of Corrupting Another With Drugs (F-2)
- Tampering With Evidence (F-3)
- Two counts of Unlawful Transactions in Weapons (F-3)
- Forgery (F-5)
- Theft (F-4)
These indictments are the culmination of a rigorous and ongoing investigation that commenced late in 2022. Sheriff North emphasized the seriousness of the charges, stating, “These charges are reflective of an individual that has violated the public’s trust and the core values of our Office. Doing the right thing is never easy or everyone would be doing it, and we will continue to do the right thing while serving the citizens of Hocking County.”
