CIRCLEVILLE – For years, the vision of a unique New Year’s Eve tradition in Circleville has been slowly coming to life, and this year, the Vineyard Church is inviting the entire community to join in the fun.

“This idea has been eight years in the making,” said Pastor Ron Vanhorn. “We love our community and want to do something special for all of Circleville. We’ve been working on how it would work, and now, we’re excited to see it take shape. We have made this an annual event—this is just the beginning!”

What started as an idea has evolved into the beloved Pumpkin Drop, a free, family-friendly event designed to offer a safe and enjoyable way for people of all ages to ring in the new year. Held on New Year’s Eve in downtown Circleville, the Pumpkin Drop is now a fixture in the local celebration scene.

The concept was inspired by similar “drop” events that have become popular in small towns across America, including the famous “Possum Drop” in Georgia and the “Moon Pie Drop” in Mobile, Alabama. “Towns all over America are celebrating in new, fun ways, and we wanted to bring something special to Circleville,” Pastor Vanhorn said. “I work in sculpture and design, and we created the pumpkin as a symbol for the town—it’s something unique and meaningful for our community.”

The event will take place on December 31 at the Pumpkin Show Pumpkin Park, located on Court Street in downtown Circleville. The festivities begin at 9 p.m. and continue through midnight, featuring a fun, alcohol-free atmosphere ideal for families.

“We want everyone to feel welcome to come out and enjoy the night—whether you’re a parent with young kids, a group of friends, or anyone just looking for a great way to celebrate the New Year,” Vanhorn said. “This event is all about creating lasting memories in a safe, community-focused environment.”

As Circleville joins the growing list of towns with its own unique New Year’s Eve tradition, the Vineyard Church is excited to see the Pumpkin Drop grow into something that will continue for years to come. So, grab your friends and family, and head downtown to the Pumpkin Show Pumpkin Park on December 31 to enjoy this one-of-a-kind celebration!
