Officer Involved Shooting
Galla County Sheriff Matt Champlin has released a statement regarding an officer involved shooting that occurred on the morning of Sunday, October 22, 2023 in Huntington Township, just north of the Village of Vinton.
“At approximately 10:40 a.m. this morning, deputies with the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office went to a residence located in Huntington Township in an attempt to locate an individual who is wanted for an active arrest warrant. When deputies attempted to make contact at the residence and announced their presence, they were met with gunfire from within the residence. At this point, the deputies responded appropriately and the individual shooting at them was wounded and ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation was contacted, responded to the scene, and will be conducting the investigation into the incident. Further information regarding this investigation will be released at the appropriate time, however that information will be in cooperation with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation as their investigation continues” stated Sheriff Champlin.
