Gas prices are dropping faster than egg prices, with Southern Ohio seeing prices dip below $3 a gallon as winter nears its end. This week, the national average for a gallon of gas decreased by three cents, bringing the cost to $3.12. As temperatures warm up, gas prices continue to cool down, and experts predict they will stay steady as March arrives and seasonal maintenance wraps up.
In contrast to the fluctuating gas prices, the average cost per kilowatt hour at public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations remains unchanged at 34 cents.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand has increased from 8.23 million barrels per day (b/d) to 8.45 million b/d. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline supply rose slightly from 247.9 million barrels to 248.3 million barrels, though gasoline production has decreased, averaging 9.2 million barrels per day.
The national average for gasoline remains flat compared to a month ago and is 14 cents lower than this time last year. At Wednesday’s trading session close, WTI crude oil fell by 31 cents, settling at $68.62 per barrel. The EIA also reported a decrease in crude oil inventories by 2.3 million barrels, bringing the U.S. stock to 430.2 million barrels, about 4% below the five-year average for this time of year.
In Ohio, gas prices are below the national average of $3.12 per gallon, with some areas seeing prices as low as $2.62. Hocking County and Greene County offer the cheapest gas in Southern Ohio, with prices at $2.62 and $2.53 per gallon, respectively, according to AAA.com. Ross County averages around $2.72 per gallon, while Pickaway County has the highest average at $2.87 per gallon.
Egg prices are not so good still averaging around 5.50 per dozen at both Kroger and Walmart around the area.
As winter fades, drivers in Southern Ohio are seeing a welcome break at the pump with the arrival of warmer temperatures.
