COLUMBUS, Ohio – Governor Mike DeWine has officially proclaimed Sunday, January 26, 2025, as THE Celebration of Champions Day in honor of The Ohio State University’s recent string of national championships.
The announcement comes after a historic week for the university, as it celebrated three national championships in various athletic disciplines. On January 17, Ohio State’s spirit team—comprising cheer, dance, and Brutus the Buckeye—won the Division 1A national title for the second consecutive year. Just two days later, on January 19, Ohio State’s dance team clinched the Division 1A jazz national championship for the fourth time in five years. The final triumph occurred on January 20, when the Buckeyes secured victory in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff, defeating Notre Dame 34-23.
“Fran and I are incredibly proud of the hard work and determination displayed by The Ohio State University’s spirit team, dance team, and football team in earning a national championship,” said Governor DeWine. “Go Bucks!”
The Governor’s proclamation sets aside January 26 for Ohioans to celebrate the remarkable achievements of these teams and the university’s continued excellence in collegiate sports. The celebration highlights the dedication of Ohio State’s athletes and serves as a moment of pride for the entire state.
