(March 14, 2025) – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has formally requested that NASA Headquarters be relocated to the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, citing economic benefits, enhanced efficiency, and Ohio’s deep-rooted history in aerospace innovation.
In a letter addressed to President Donald Trump, DeWine emphasized Ohio’s central role in America’s aerospace industry, highlighting the state’s research and development capabilities, its Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and its newly designated Aerospace and Defense Innovation Hub in Youngstown.
Why Move NASA to Ohio?
- Lower Costs – Cleveland offers a significantly lower cost of living and reduced operational expenses compared to Washington, D.C.
- Aerospace Synergy – Co-locating NASA HQ with NASA Glenn, Wright-Patterson AFB, and private aerospace companies would create unmatched collaboration opportunities.
- Federal Decentralization – The proposal aligns with the administration’s push to relocate federal agencies outside Washington, D.C.
- Innovation Leadership – Ohio remains a global leader in space exploration and aeronautics technology, with companies like Nanoracks, Mitsubishi, Airbus, and Palantir driving next-generation space development.
DeWine urged the Trump administration to consider the move as a way to reinforce Ohio’s status as a leader in space exploration while delivering substantial taxpayer savings.
Will NASA Make the Move?
The request is under consideration, but if approved, the relocation would mark a historic shift in NASA’s operational footprint, strengthening Ohio’s position at the forefront of U.S. aerospace innovation.
