OHIO – A proposal to legalize adult use of marijuana in Ohio narrowly fell short of the signatures it needed to make the Fall statewide ballot, but had until August 4th to get more names into the system to make it to the ballot.
Coalition to Regulate Marijuana like alcohol is short by just 679 signatures of the 124,046 required to put the question before voters on November 7th according to Secretary of State Frank LaRose. The group has worked at major events to get more names, and in a statement said they have added ten times that number of names today August 3, 2023.
The group turned in 222,233 signatures earlier this month, but election officials tossed the signatures that were not valid. There are several reasons why a signature is not valid including if a person moved from the address provided or isn’t registered to vote. Today they turned in an additional 6,545 signatures.
A representative was walking around Circleville during the protest last week asking for signatures.
Ohio has been a medical marijuana state since 2016, and since then advocates to make the drug recreationally legal in the state have been fighting year after year.
