Chillicothe, OH – A series of gunshots caused significant damage to several properties on South Sugar Street early Saturday morning, leading to an ongoing police investigation.

On July 27, 2024, an Officer was dispatched to 82 South Sugar Street following a report of vandalism. The homeowner reported that her youngest daughter had discovered a spent 9mm bullet on the living room couch earlier that day. She explained that she had heard what she believed to be gunshots around 2:00 a.m., but initially chose to check on her children rather than investigate the noises further. Upon returning home in the afternoon, she found the bullet and observed damage to her property, including a mark on the wall and a hole in the front window and curtain. The officer documented the damage with photographs.

The investigation led the Officer to the neighboring property at 84 South Sugar Street, an apparently abandoned house. There, he found additional evidence of gunfire, including three bullet holes in the front of the house and two more in the interior walls. The rear entrance of the property was found open, and a search confirmed no casualties inside.

Further investigation in the adjacent gravel area, belonging to the Railroad company, revealed 12 spent shell casings—11 brass and one steel—along with an unspent round, a new spring, and a vape cartridge. The Officer collected these items for evidence.

A statement from one of the victims was taken at the scene, and efforts were made to contact the resident at 86 South Sugar Street, who owns a camera facing the rail yard. However, no one was available at the time of the visit.

The Chillicothe Police Department continues to investigate the incident and urges anyone with information to come forward.
