March 21, 2025 – The harness racing world is reeling from the tragic loss of Hunter Myers, 27, who passed away after a devastating accident at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows on Wednesday afternoon.
During the 11th race, at least six horses were involved in a chain-reaction crash after one horse appeared to break stride. Myers suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to a Pittsburgh hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
In a heartfelt statement, Hollywood Casino at The Meadows and the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association extended their deepest condolences to Myers’ loved ones, particularly his fiancée, Chloe Fisher, and their 7-month-old son, Hayden Myers.
A Rising Star in the Sport
Myers was a top-10 driver in North America and among the top five at Northfield Park. A graduate of Westfall High School, he started harness racing at just 16 years old and had competed in nearly 20,000 races. Known for his skill, dedication, and sportsmanship, Myers had a bright future ahead in the sport.
An Outpouring of Grief
The racing community has been left shattered by the loss. Michelle Venneri, a longtime horse groomer, called it the “saddest day” she had ever experienced at the track.
As a mark of respect, all racing at The Meadows has been canceled for the remainder of the week.
Myers’ passing leaves a void in the sport, but his impact on harness racing—and the countless lives he touched—will never be forgotten.
