ROSS COUNTY, OH — A barn was completely destroyed by a fire on Maple Grove Road over the weekend, prompting a large-scale response from local fire departments.

On July 28, 2024, at approximately 6:36 p.m., firefighters from multiple departments were dispatched to the scene after reports of a barn fire. Upon arrival at 6:41 p.m., emergency crews were met with a fully engulfed structure.

According to initial reports by Ross County Deputy, the blaze was believed to have started when a paint can exploded during a burn pile. The property owner explained that he had been burning wooden skids when the paint can caused the fire to spread, igniting nearby hay and ultimately consuming the barn.

Multiple fire trucks from several Ross County Township Fire Departments and the Veterans Affairs Fire Department battled the flames. Pickaway Counties Box 65 was called to the scene to help firefighters while battling the blaze. Despite their efforts, the barn was lost in the fire.

The homeowner was uncertain whether the barn was covered under his insurance policy.

Officer in Charge (OIC), requested that the Fire Marshal’s Office be contacted for further investigation. The Fire Marshal’s Office was notified and will be following up on the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and additional details will be provided as they become available.
