Hocking County Sheriff Lanny E. North reports:

December 1, 2020
Detectives were notified and began a sexual battery investigation involving a minor. During the investigation, deputies learned that the suspect, a registered sex offender had fled to the State of Georgia accompanied by the minor. Detectives with the assistance of the United States Marshall’s Service and the Spaulding County Georgia Sheriff’s Office were able to locate and arrest Burgless L. Riddle, 43, Rockbridge. Burgless has been initially arrested for Pandering Sexual Material involving a minor. Additional charges will be presented to the Hocking County Grand Jury. Burgless was originally convicted of Rape and 3 counts of Gross Sexual Imposition in Fairfield County in 2005. Burgless is currently in the process of being returned to Hocking County.

December 3, 2020
Deputies responded to a domestic violence complaint at a SR 56 residence. After investigation, deputies charged Dustin O. Eveland, 35, with Domestic Violence and Assault.

December 4, 2020
Deputies responded to True Rd. for a vehicle stuck along the road. After arriving, deputies spoke with a female who provided a false name. After investigation, deputies learned the identity of the female and they had an active warrant from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The warrant was not enforced due to lack of bed space. K9 Tiger was deployed around the vehicle and indicated the presence of drugs. A search of the vehicle found paraphernalia with residue. The items were seized and will be sent to the BCI crime lab for analysis. Charges will be decided after the results from the crime lab.

Deputies responded to a SR 278 residence for a theft of a catalytic converter and battery from their vehicle.

Deputies investigated a hit skip crash on SR 56 at Young’s Sunoco. A vehicle backing out of the parking lot, stuck a parked vehicle and then left the scene.

Deputies responded to a SR 93 residence for a suicidal person. After arrival and investigating the matter, deputies also learned of a domestic violence incident that had occurred. Deputies arrested Dawson A. Danner, 18, Logan and charged him with Domestic Violence, Assault, Unlawful Restraint and Disorderly Conduct. Danner was transported to the SEORJ.

December 6, 2020
Deputies responded to a Main St. Rockbridge residence for an attempted suicide. HCEMS was summoned and they transported to HVCH for treatment and evaluation.

Deputies responded to a Geiger Rd. residence for a menacing complaint. The complainant told deputies that a person had been making vague threats toward them.

December 7, 2020
A Pickaway County resident came to the Sheriff’s Office to report that a person that possibly lived in Hocking County had provided their child alcoholic beverages or drugs. South Bloomfield Police had declined to file a report because the suspect may have lived in Hocking County.

Deputies received a complaint from a Perry County resident who told deputies that his child had been provided drugs by the mother while in her custody. After investigation is was alleged that the child was given a piece of candy and told by another juvenile that it was drugs. The case was referred to Children’s Services.

Deputies responded to a Hawk St. Carbon Hill residence for a stolen ATV and trailer. The complainant told deputies that after returning home the evening of December 6th, the trailer and ATV were parked behind the residence. When they went out the next morning the ATV and trailer were missing. The items were entered into NCIC as stolen and the case remains under investigation.

December 8, 2020
Deputies conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 33. The driver, Misty R. Cook, 41, Logan had an active warrant from Hocking County Juvenile Court for Child Support. The court requested Cook be told to appear December 9th.

Deputies responded to a SR 664 North residence. The complainant told deputies that their vehicle had been entered overnight, but nothing appeared missing at this time. The residence was added to the patrol list.

Deputies took a report of identity theft from a Conrad Rd. resident. The complainant told deputies that they noticed an unauthorized charge on their statement. The complainant was unsure how someone may have gotten the information.

Deputies responded to a Homer St. residence for a violation of a protection order complaint. After arrival and speaking with the complainant, it was found the protection order had just been issued and the respondent had not yet been served. Deputies are attempting to serve the protection order.

Detectives received notification from Athens County Sheriff’s Office that a registered sex offender may be residing in Hocking County without providing the required registration. After beginning an investigation detectives obtained a warrant for the arrest of Douglas L. Young II, 32, Logan. Young turned himself into the Sheriff’s Office on December 19, 2020 after several attempts by detectives to locate Young at the residence he was staying at. Young was given a $25,000 cash bond after appearing in Hocking County Municipal Court.

Deputies responded to a Wandling Rd. residence for an assault complaint. The complainant told deputies that they were in a car with others and after stopping and getting out one of the occupants sprayed the complainant with mace. The case remains under investigation.

December 9, 2020
Deputies responded to a Collison Rd. cabin for a burglary complaint. The complainant told deputies that someone had entered the cabin and stole several items. The case remains under investigation.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 33. The driver, Christopher H. Mellinger, 41, Logan was issued a citation for driving under suspension. The passenger, David W. Gallagher, 31, New Plymouth had an active warrant and was turned over to the Lancaster Police Department. Several drug paraphernalia items were seized and will be submitted to the BCI crime lab for analysis. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

December 10, 2020
Deputies responded to a SR 93 residence for a stolen vehicle complaint. The complainant told deputies that they believed a grandchild had taken the vehicle since they were not attending school. The vehicle was entered into NCIC as stolen and a missing person report was filed for the grandchild. The case remains under investigation.

Deputies filed a report for menacing after the complainant told deputies that a person who their daughter has a restraining order against, made threats toward them.

Deputies filed a report after the complainant told deputies that an ex-girlfriend had been accusing him of being an abuser.

A Goat Run Rd. resident came to the Sheriff’s Office to file a report of menacing. The complainant told deputies that an ex had been making threats by telephone, text and social media post. The case file was sent to the Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Deputies responded to the shelter for a complaint of a resident in crisis. Deputies transported to HVCH for treatment and evaluation.

Deputies responded to a rental cabin business on SR 664 South for a breaking and entering complaint. The complainant told deputies that someone entered the business and stole customer credit card information. The case remains under investigation by the detective bureau.

A Main St. Laurelville resident reported to deputies that while incarcerated, someone spent money from their bank account. The case remains under investigation.

December 11, 2020
Deputies responded to a Zwickel Rd. residence for a violation of a protection order complaint. After investigation, it was learned that the charges and protection order had been dismissed by the Prosecutor’s Office. The complainants were told to contact the Prosecutor’s Office for additional information.
