WASHINGTON, April 5, 2025 – Johnsonville, LLC has issued a recall for approximately 22,672 pounds of its cheddar bratwurst product due to potential contamination with hard plastic, according to an announcement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The affected item, produced on February 5, 2025, is a 19-ounce sealed firm tray package labeled “Johnsonville BRATS CHEDDAR Bratwurst” with five sausages per pack. The product has the code B9FOD and bears the establishment number “Est. 1647” on the front label. It was distributed to retail locations in Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

The recall was initiated after Johnsonville received two consumer complaints about hard plastic found in the bratwurst. So far, there have been no confirmed reports of injuries associated with the product. However, FSIS urges consumers who may be concerned to consult a healthcare provider.

Officials are also warning that some of the affected products may still be in consumer freezers. Shoppers are urged not to eat the product and to return it to the place of purchase or dispose of it.

FSIS will post retail distribution lists when available at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
