CIRCLEVILLE – Back by popular demand for the holiday season! The Knitting Tree, community service project of the Pickaway Arts & Life Center (PAL Center), is co-sponsored this year by Downtown Business Association (DBA) and The Savings Bank. The Knitting Tree provides hats, scarves, wraps, gloves, and mittens, throughout downtown Circleville on specially designated trees. The winter accessories are free to community members in need. Residents and crafters alike can participate – watch for specially marked baskets in downtown locations where crafters can choose a skein of yarn to crochet or knit into an item to be donated back to the basket. Residents can also donate purchased items into the baskets. Items are then displayed on specially marked trees for our community friends in need of warm winter accessories.
The Pickaway County Library is hosting a crochet class Sunday, November 11, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. to teach those interested in learning to crochet. Supplies will be provided. To sign up for the class, click on the link, http://pickawaylib.evanced.info/signup/EventDetails?EventId=7329&df=calendar&lib=999&backTo=Calendar&startDate=2018/11/01 or visit the library website, Pickawaylib.org.
Baskets will be available starting November 10th for choosing a skein of yarn or donating new items. Volunteers then prep the items to be displayed on the trees. Anyone in need is invited to take an item from the tree to help stay warm from the winter weather. Trees will have winter items beginning Saturday, December 1st to coincide with the DBA Winter Carnival and holiday festivities.
This year The Savings Bank is proud to be sponsoring The Knitting Tree. Be sure to look for The Knitting Tree basket inside the lobby at The Savings Bank and check out the special tree outside the bank on South Court Street. Other baskets can be found at the Pickaway County Welcome Center, Rosena’s Treasures, Scioto Valley Coffee, and the Pickaway County Library. The Knitting Trees will be displayed at the Santa House, PNC Bank, Pickaway County Banking Center, and The Savings Bank. After Christmas, items will be donated to local charities.
