Chillicothe, OH – On July 12, 2024, Deputy Speakman of the Sheriff’s Office responded to a concerning report at the department’s lobby regarding a suspicious package possibly containing drugs.

Upon arriving at the scene, the Deputy met with Da citizen, who reported discovering a pack of cigarettes on his property’s sidewalk. He explained that upon inspecting the pack, he found plastic protruding from it. Upon further investigation, he discovered a blue powder inside, prompting him to secure the contents in a zip-lock bag and bring it to the Sheriff’s Office for disposal.

The man speculated that the package might have been dropped by workers who had recently completed roofing work on his property. The deputy collected the package and assured that the incident would be documented, and the substance properly handled as evidence.

Upon closer examination of the powder, the Deputy noted its purple color and fine texture, which raised concerns due to its unfamiliar appearance. Seeking guidance, the Deputy contacted Chillicothe PD Detectives, who confirmed that the substance resembled a newly marked variant of pure Fentanyl, reportedly circulating among local dealers.

In response to this alarming discovery, the Lieutenant was promptly informed to disseminate precautionary advisories within the Sheriff’s Office. The deputy proceeded to photograph and officially log the package into evidence for further analysis and handling.
