COLUMBUS— House Bill 276 passed the House unanimously, designating Master Chief Special Warfare Operator (SEAL) Edward C. Byers, Jr., Medal of Honor Recipient Highway on parts of State Route 65 in Wood County. This bill also designates multiple memorial highways and bridges across the state, including two Memorial Highway designations in House District 92, announced State Representative Gary Scherer (R-Circleville).
This legislation honors and remembers distinguished veterans, community leaders and individuals who made a difference in the lives of those around them and who accomplished important work in their communities.
In honor of SGT Michael Keith Hamner, a Ross County native who fought and was killed selflessly in the Vietnam War, a portion of U.S. Route 23 in Ross County will now be named the “SGT Michael Keith Hamner Memorial Highway.” House Bill 276 also honors the heroic sacrifices of the Boggs brothers from Fayette County, who fought in the Korean War and World War II. The “PFC Williams Boggs, CPL Sam Boggs, and SGT Robert Boggs Memorial Highway” will be located on U.S. Route 61 between StauntonSugar Grove Road and Greenfield Sabine Road in Fayette County.
“It’s important to recognize the selfless individuals who have served our country and given their lives to protect our freedoms. The designation of the “SGT Michael Keith Hamner Memorial Highway” and the “PFC Williams Boggs, CPL Sam Boggs, and SGT Robert Boggs Memorial Highway,” will ensure that these brave servicemen’s sacrifices and dedication will never be forgotten” said Representative Gary Scherer.
Scherer is currently running in Pickaway County for Commissioner. Scherer is term limited out of his position.
