LOGAN, OH – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is partnering with Ohio Girl Scouts to plant thousands of trees across the state, and Logan will be among the first locations to host an event this spring. The Lapp Land Reclamation site in Logan will welcome volunteers on Saturday, April 5, from 9 a.m. to noon, as part of a broader effort to enhance conservation and environmental stewardship.
The initiative is part of the Girl Scout Tree Promise, a national movement aimed at planting 5 million trees across the U.S. by 2026. Since joining the effort, ODNR has worked with Girl Scouts to plant more than 215,000 trees in Ohio, with a goal of reaching 250,000 trees by 2026—a milestone that will coincide with America’s 250th birthday.
“These events are some of my favorites to attend with Girl Scouts because they’re fun, exciting, and we’re passing on our love of tree planting and conservation to the future generation,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz. “By planting trees, we increase habitat for wildlife, improve water quality through wetland creation, and continue to support our state forests and parks.”
How to Participate
Local Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland are invited to register in advance for the Logan event, where they will not only contribute to conservation but also have the opportunity to earn the Girl Scout Tree Promise Patch.
Other planting events will take place in Swanton, Akron, St. Clairsville, and Grand Lake St. Marys throughout April and May.
This initiative is a significant step toward preserving Ohio’s natural beauty and reinforcing the importance of conservation in Hocking County and beyond.
