Lucasville, OH – A Lucasville couple has been arrested after deputies and detectives responded to their residence at 495 Eckhart Road on July 19, 2024, following an indictment for rape of a child issued by the Scioto County Grand Jury earlier that day.

According to Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman, deputies and detectives arrived at the residence to locate a male suspect identified in the indictment. Upon arrival, the suspect’s wife answered the door and initially claimed that the suspect was not home, stating he had gone fishing.

However, detectives observed all vehicles registered to the couple parked in their driveway. Subsequently, a van was seen leaving the residence with two occupants. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the van and the occupants revealed that the suspect was indeed inside the residence with his wife, contradicting her earlier statement.

Concerns were raised about the couple’s potential for self-harm, leading deputies and detectives to approach the situation cautiously. After several attempts to make contact by announcing themselves and knocking on the door went unanswered, deputies made the decision to enter the residence due to the exigent circumstances.

Inside, both Ezra Wright, aged 81, and Carolyn Wright, aged 80, were discovered hiding in a back bedroom. Ezra Wright was placed under arrest and is facing six counts of Rape of a Child, a first-degree felony. He is currently held without bond.

Carolyn Wright was also arrested and charged with one count of Obstructing Justice, a third-degree felony. She is being held on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on July 22, 2024.

The investigation into the alleged rape of a child remains ongoing. Sheriff Thoroughman emphasized the seriousness of the charges and affirmed the commitment of law enforcement to pursue justice in this case.
