Columbus, OH (February 6, 2024) – The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) is urging travelers who were at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport on specific dates to be aware of a potential measles exposure. The warning comes after a child from Montgomery County contracted the highly contagious disease.

Who is potentially exposed?

  • Individuals who were in Terminal A of the airport on:
    • January 27, 2024 between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM
    • January 29, 2024 between 8:30 PM and 11:30 PM

What are the symptoms of measles?

  • Fever over 101°F
  • Runny nose
  • Watery red eyes
  • Cough
  • Rash that starts on the face and spreads to the body (3-5 days after initial symptoms)

What should you do if you were exposed?

  • If you or your child are already vaccinated against measles, the risk of infection is very low.
  • If you are not vaccinated, consult your healthcare provider immediately to get the MMR vaccine. This vaccine is extremely effective in preventing measles, mumps, and rubella.
  • If you develop any measles symptoms, stay home, call your healthcare provider, and inform them of the potential exposure.

Additional Information:

  • ODH is working with the CDC and other health officials to identify and contact potentially exposed individuals.
