Nelsonville OH- On December 29, 2020 Officer Jones and K9 Attila were working a Narcotics Interdiction detail in the City of Nelsonville. During the detail, K9 Attila proved himself to be an Invaluable Weapon in Combatting the Drug problem in Nelsonville.
The following is some of the activity that Atilla was involved in during the detail:
At approximately 6:09 hours Officer Jones stopped a vehicle on Fort Street. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Greg Spears of Nelsonville, passenger Jana Bruce of Nelsonville along with another passenger. Officer Jones had Attila perform an open-air sniff of the vehicle. Atilla indicated on the presence of Narcotics inside the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle revealed 16 Controlled Narcotic pills and other Drug Paraphernalia that belonged to Spears, along with Xanax that belonged to Bruce. Neither had prescriptions for the pills that were located.
Officer Jones then discovered that Spears was Driving Under Suspension and had active Aggravated Felony Drug Warrants from Athens County. The Southeast Ohio Regional Jail (SEORJ) was contacted, and they refused to accept both Spears and Bruce due to them only having four open bed spaces that they said were being saved for more Violent Offenders.
Officer Jones was left with no other alternative, but to cite Spears with Driving Under Suspension and advising him to appear on his own will to take care of the Warrant. Bruce was also advised to take care of her warrant. They were both then released. The Seized Illegal Narcotics will be submitted to the BCI Laboratory for analysis. Once the lab results are completed, a completed copy of the case file will be submitted to the Athens Co. Prosecutor’s Office for Felony Drug Charges.

At approximately 10:07 hours Officer Jones stopped a vehicle on East Canal Street. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Timothy Hoffman of Nelsonville. It was determined that Hoffman was Driving Under Suspension.
Officer Jones had Attila perform an open-air sniff of the vehicle. Attila indicated the presence of Illegal Narcotics in the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle revealed Marijuana, Drug Paraphernalia and Xanax Pills. The SEORJ was contacted and again refused to accept Hoffman for the Felony Drug Offense. Hoffman was then released. The seized Narcotics will be submitted to the BCI Laboratory for analysis. Once the lab results are completed, a completed copy of the case file will be submitted to the Athens Co. Prosecutor’s Office for Felony Charges.

At approximately 11:38 hours Officer Jones stopped a vehicle on Clinton Avenue. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Tesla Furr of Nelsonville. It was determined that Furr was Driving Under Suspension, had an active Warrant for Failure to Appear. Furr was detained while Attila performed an open-air sniff of the vehicle. Attila indicated the presence of Illegal Narcotics in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed suspected Methamphetamine and Heroin. The SEORJ was contacted and refused to take Furr on the Felony Drug Charges, the Driving Under Suspension and the active Warrant for her arrest. The seized Narcotics will be submitted to the BCI Laboratory for analysis. Once the results are completed, a completed copy of the case file will be submitted to the Athens Co Prosecutor’s Office for Felony Drug Charges.

At approximately 00:37 hours a vehicle was stopped on East Franklin Street. The passenger of the vehicle was identified as Kayla Albaugh of Nelsonville.
It was determined that Albaugh had an active Felony Warrant for Drug Offenses. Attila then performed an open-air sniff of the vehicle. K9 Attila indicated the presence of Illegal Narcotics inside the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle revealed multiple Hypodermic Needles, some fully loaded with suspected Methamphetamine. Once again, the SEORJ was contacted and refused to accept Albaugh even though she already had a Felony Warrant for Drugs, on top of the new Felony Drug Charges. Albaugh was then advised on her own will to appear in court for the Felony Warrant for her Arrest. The Seized Illegal Narcotics will be submitted to the BCI Laboratory for Analysis. Once the lab results are completed, a completed copy of the case file will be submitted to the Athens Co. Prosecutor’s Office for Felony Drug Charges.
