CIRCLEVILLE, OH – Circleville residents will soon have a new sweet treat destination as Whit’s Frozen Custard prepares to open its doors in April. The popular frozen custard franchise, known for its rich and creamy desserts, is expanding into the Circleville community. Located at 910 Stoutsville Pike in Circleivlle across from the Pickaway County Fairgrounds.
Whit’s Frozen Custard has a history of defying expectations. The original location opened in Granville, Ohio, in 2003, during a harsh winter, and faced skepticism from locals unfamiliar with frozen custard. However, the business quickly thrived, proving the enduring appeal of this classic dessert.
Frozen custard’s origins date back to the early 1900s, with commercial machines being invented in the 1920s. The dessert gained widespread popularity at the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago, leading to the establishment of custard stands across the Eastern and Midwestern United States.
Whit’s Frozen Custard continues to adhere to the traditional recipe, using simple ingredients like cream, eggs, and sugar. The dessert’s unique texture and flavor result from a higher butterfat content, a slower, labor-intensive production process that minimizes air incorporation (“overrun”), and a warmer serving temperature of 26 degrees Fahrenheit, compared to ice cream.
Today, Whit’s Frozen Custard operates as a franchise, with locations owned and operated by local partners within the communities they serve. The Circleville location will be owned and operated by R&R Partners LLC, comprised of Dom and Lisa Russo, and Tony and Lora Rowe.
The Circleville Whit’s Frozen Custard location is planning to open in April, bringing the tradition of rich, creamy frozen custard to the area. The community is eagerly anticipating the arrival of this new sweet treat destination.
