White Plains, New York – March 5, 2024 – A New York truck driver, Kelvin Garcia Liriano, has been sentenced to six months in prison for stealing a tractor-trailer filled with Mike’s Hard Lemonade. Liriano, 28, of New Rochelle, pleaded guilty to grand larceny in the second degree in November 2023 and received his sentence on Friday at Westchester County Court.
According to court documents, Liriano admitted to stealing the truck, which contained 1,560 cases of the hard lemonade beverage, worth approximately $33,000, on March 21, 2023. Investigators reported that Liriano took the truck from a parking lot near Interstate 87 in Yonkers and drove it to Brooklyn, where it was later found abandoned, its cargo missing.
Following a nearly month-long investigation, law enforcement officials apprehended Liriano on April 17, 2023. In addition to his prison sentence, Liriano will be subject to five years of supervised release upon his release and has been ordered to pay nearly $43,000 in restitution. This figure likely includes the stolen cargo’s value and any associated damages or losses incurred by the involved parties.
The case serves as a reminder of the potential consequences for those who engage in criminal activity, regardless of the perceived value of the stolen goods. It also highlights the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in investigating and apprehending individuals who commit such offenses.
