Put-In-Bay – A former Youngstown State football player who went on and signed with the Arizona Cardinals was arrested over the weekend for operating under the influence after they found the football star in a lake.
According to a Put-in-Bay press release on Friday June 26 Jermiah Lamont Braswell crashed his Orange Camaro at the 200 block of Conlan Road on South Bass Island when he drove over an embankment and into the water.
Police said that when they arrived on scene and approached the car Braswell was still trying to drive forward in the car.
“As officers went into the water and approached the Camaro, they found the driver was still in the driver’s seat trying to drive forward. He told officers that he was ‘stuck’ and didn’t know what happened. As officers spoke with the driver, they noticed that his speech was slurred and he was unable to explain how his Camaro ended up in the water.”
Police said that witnesses reported that they saw the orange car driving at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and travelled along a a grassy area into the water.
Braswell was given a field sobriety test at the scene and then placed under arrest for OVI when the test showed he was over the limit to drive legally. Braswell was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
