High school juniors and seniors interested in a career in conservation can now apply for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Job Shadow Program. The program, set for Friday, May 2, gives students a hands-on opportunity to explore careers in wildlife, parks, forestry, law enforcement, engineering, and more.

ODNR Director Mary Mertz emphasized the importance of inspiring the next generation of conservationists. “Providing insight into careers at ODNR—from protecting wildlife and plant habitats to conserving our forests—is essential to ensuring this vital work continues,” Mertz said.

Applications for the program are open from March 3 through March 31 and can be submitted on the ODNR Job Shadow webpage. Students can select the division or office they want to shadow, offering a personalized experience tailored to their career interests.

ODNR plans to host two job shadow days each year, with details on the fall 2025 session yet to be announced.
