Canal Winchester, OH – December 14, 2024 – The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a theft that occurred on December 14, 2024, at the Meijer store located at 8300 Meijer Dr., Canal Winchester.
According to Sheriff Lape, deputies were dispatched to the scene after a victim reported her purse was stolen while she was seated in her vehicle. The victim had placed her purse on the passenger seat when a suspect opened the door and took the purse.
An off-duty Clinton Township Police Officer, who was nearby, heard the victim’s cries for help. The officer quickly intervened, confronting the suspect and detaining him until law enforcement arrived. The suspect has been identified as Trevon Hunter, 21, of Columbus, Ohio.
Hunter was arrested and is currently facing charges of Theft (2913.02), a Felony 5, and Tampering with Evidence.
Sheriff Lape commended the off-duty officer’s assistance in resolving the situation and emphasized the importance of public vigilance.
“We’d like to thank the Clinton Township officer for their quick response and assistance,” said Sheriff Lape.
The Sheriff’s Office reminds the public to remain cautious and keep valuables secure. “When out and about, never leave your belongings unattended, even in a locked car. Always keep your wallet, purse, and other valuables with you,” Lape added.
