WEST CHESTER, OH – The Butler County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) Bomb Squad responded to a potentially dangerous situation on Monday, February 10, 2025, after a citizen dropped off a bag containing two military projectiles at the West Chester Fire Headquarters on Cincinnati Dayton Road.

Upon arrival, bomb technicians secured both projectiles and assessed them for safety. According to officials, one of the 40mm projectiles originated from the United States, while the other was from France.

The BCSO Bomb Squad will conduct further evaluation and properly dispose of the ordnance. Authorities reminded the public to exercise caution when handling or transporting potentially explosive materials, encouraging individuals to contact law enforcement for safe disposal instead.

“Our Bomb Squad responds to several incidents a year that require very steady hands,” the department said in a statement, emphasizing the risks involved in handling old or unidentified explosives.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
