WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Dave Taylor (OH-02) issued a statement today in support of President Trump’s Executive Order directing the Secretary of Education to dismantle the Department of Education. The decision, announced by the President, aims to shift the authority over education back to parents and local communities, removing the federal government from making decisions for families.

“It’s time to return control over our children’s education to the hands of parents and local communities, rather than federal bureaucrats in Washington, D.C.,” said Congressman Taylor. “I applaud President Trump for taking action to dismantle the Department of Education, while ensuring that essential services, programs, and benefits for schools and students remain uninterrupted.”

The Congressman emphasized that local school districts, guided by the values of parents, are best suited to provide students with a rigorous education that sets them up for success. Reflecting on the Department of Education’s 40-plus-year history, Taylor criticized the growing number of regulations and mandates which, he argues, have done more to create burdens and waste taxpayer dollars on “woke” indoctrination rather than improving the education system. Despite these efforts, he pointed to the declining national test scores as evidence that the department’s approach has failed.

“American schools should focus on providing students with the tools they need to succeed. Parents and communities are in the best position to understand each child’s needs, not distant federal officials,” Taylor said. “I remain committed to supporting the expansion of school choice in Ohio, advocating for our dedicated teachers, and working to eliminate unnecessary bureaucratic barriers so our students can receive the highest quality education possible.”
