Columbus, Ohio (March 1, 2024) – The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) announced today that applications are now open for their annual hazardous materials training grant program. This program provides funding to educational institutions and local governments across the state to enhance their ability to respond to hazardous materials incidents.
Grant Information:
- Application Period: Open now until May 31, 2024
- Funding Available: $800,000 (awarded to 21 recipients in 2023)
- Funding Source: Fines paid by hazardous materials carriers and shippers
- Eligible Training:
- Various levels of hazardous materials training (first responder awareness, operations, etc.)
- Intermodal hazardous materials training
- Incident response exercises
- Rail hazardous materials response training
- Hazardous materials planning and survey studies
