CIRCLEVILLE
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office and Circleville Police Department conducted an OVI Checkpoint on Friday, August 18 th from 9 P.M. to 10:45 P.M. on South Court Street.
The OVI checkpoints were funded by federal grants, and were planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. The checkpoint was conducted in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat alcohol-related injury and fatal crashes. These efforts resulted in a total of 159 vehicles checked during its operation until 10:45 P.M.
- Advertisement -The Patrol worked with the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, Circleville Police Department and the Ohio Department of Transportation to conduct the checkpoints. Contact was made with 159 motorists during the checkpoint. 11 vehicles were diverted. Ten vehicles were diverted because the driver did not have a valid license. One driver was diverted due to suspicion of alcohol consumption.
“The cooperation between agencies in this program shows the level of commitment we all have to making the roadways safer in Pickaway County,” said Lieutenant Steven K. Herron, Circleville Post Commander. “Multi-agency cooperation solidifies the relationship between all Pickaway County Law Enforcement Agencies and leads to positive accomplishments within the community.”
If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Don’t let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired.
